PARIA BAY AND WATERFALLS
(Northern Range, Trinidad)
Best time for this hike: January - December
Three (3) hour trek from the Spring Bridge in Blanchisseuse to Paria Bay. Rating of this trek is (5) moderately challenging.
There are two (2) legs concerning this trek: (a) just over an hour of walking on dirt road hereby being exposed to the elements (sun or rain) and (b) an hour and a half of forest walk on the second half hereby being under the canopy of the forest trees.
Stop off at two (2) secluded beaches for optional swims or a bit of relaxation on the first leg of the walk.
In the forest, the overall trail is undulating meaning that there are equal bits of uphill, flat terrain and downhill to trek.
A stop off at the popular “Turtle Rock” affording astounding views of the Caribbean Sea and the rugged natural coastlines.
At Paria Bay, the majestic natural rock known as “Cathedral Rock” or “Paria Arch”
is fittingly positioned at the entrance to the beach. Great for photography. At this point, we would have trekked around 4.80 miles (7.68 kms) in between 2.5 to 3 hours.
Great walking along the beach until we reach to another trail that will eventually lead us to the well known “Paria
Falls”. Great swimming here. Again, this trek is about 1.25 miles (2 kms) in about 35 minutes.
From the falls, back at the beach where we head on to a very secluded beach known as “Murphy’s Bay” (pending on the time of year which is usually June - November), where swimming here is really splendid.
Upon departure from Paria Bay, we take the pirogue (boat) trip back to Blanchisseuse where majestic views of natural rugged coastlines with numerous small, secluded beaches are in full view.
We eventually stop off at another secluded beach where more beach bathing is afforded before we take the final 20 minute walk back to our parked vehicle at the Spring Bridge.
