MADAMAS WATERFALL

(Northern Range, TRINIDAD)

Best time for this hike: January - July

Deep in the forested area of the Madamas Valley, we first have to drive along rough dirt terrain for the next 3 miles until we eventually reach to our stop off point. From here, we begin our 3 hour foot trekking along clear dirt road that is pleasant, especially during the dry season for the next 45 minutes when we come to a narrow river crossing. Here is a major point where we veer left along the dirt road once again until we eventually reach to the end of the dirt track. At this point, we should accomplish about an hour and a half of trekking. We are now in forested area and trekking along a very narrow trail until we meet our first uphill that is not steep whatsoever. We trek uphill all the way until we are on the summit......this uphill to the summit should take about 25 minutes, and once on top, a bit of flat walking until we begin our decent all the way until we eventually reach to the Madamas River. From this river, we river trek upstream for about another 45 minutes tops until we eventually reach to the little known "Madamas Waterfall". Bathing in this small, but great pool affords great relief to any hiker.

We reverse our trek from the waterfall, back to the trail we came, finally leading us back to our parked vehicles.

Once lunch is on order, notification must be made in advance so that proper arrangements can be made. The menu is the ever unique "smoked fish/chicken, ground provision, fresh salad and dhalloo", together with fresh fruit juice and waters and dessert. Lunch will be served after the hike.
