ANGEL & ZORRO WATERFALLS

(Northern Range, Trinidad)

Best time for this hike: January to December

This hike is rated (6) challenging where the trail to Angel Waterfalls is a constant uphill.

Welcome to the very remote Zorro Village where the population is not many, but agriculture remains the prime way of living here. We park our vehicle on the road and start our trek along the narrow stream that will eventually lead us to the official start of the hike through natural forest where the trail from here is all the way uphill along steep terrain for about 30 minutes for the fit trekker and of course more trekking time for the not so fit with the occasional stops for a breather. As we reach to the summit, we take a relatively steep downhill trek until eventually the sight of the waterfall is there before us.

At the waterfall, trekking from here onwards will have to be done extremely carefully as the rocks are very slippery and injury can very easily be inflicted. Once we eventually reach to the falls, the pool here, though small and can comfortably accommodate 8-10 persons, is extremely inviting. A short climb from the pool can get you to the base of the falling waters for the ideal massage that will assist invigorate you.

Upon departure, we have (2) ways in getting out, but because we will be visiting another waterfall, we will take the same route we took coming uphill in coming back downhill this time. When we reach to the river, rather than heading back to the parked vehicle, we instead head on further upstream. We meander through slippery rocks along the way for the next 20 minutes until finally we come to a much smaller waterfall with a lovely pool that can accommodate about 15 persons comfortably. Here is extremely peaceful and perfect for that bit of relaxation until it is time to head on back to our vehicle.
